These are all great tips! My husband and I have been married for almost 15 years, and these are all so true! Another rule we live by is to never talk badly about the other, no matter who it's to or how mad we are. We will end up reconciling, but our friends/family will remember the bad and make judgements about the other person.

I really connected with the point about not keeping score. In everyday family life, it can be so easy to notice who did what, who forgot something, or who should have helped more, and before you know it the small things become the whole conversation. I like the reminder that sometimes protecting the relationship matters more than winning the argument.

Congratulations on 25 years. That is amazing. My last marriage was ten years. I feel like people today don’t take for better or worse seriously. My ex left me bc I wouldn’t get a job. I’ve got health issues and I can’t work and maintain a household. I work now but my house suffers so badly. I want to clean it on my days off but my body says not today 9 times out of ten. I hate having chronic illness. I will most likely never ever marry again.

Excellent tips. My wife was sick for 8 years before passing away, so I know much of which you speak of from personal experience. What I had to do to maintain sanity was to get out of the house for a few hours a few times a week to go hiking or something. I was driving her crazy by being near her and checking on her all the time.

Congratulations! That's such a huge milestone, and I'm really happy for you. These are wonderful tips, and I especially agree about appreciating the surprises from our spouse. Even the little gestures mean so much, and learning to be grateful for them can make a big difference in a relationship.

I loved this tip- "Make a decision to take care of household issues that really matter to you. You won’t need to nag your spouse about something truly important to you because you will be solving the problem yourself." My husband and I always thank each other for doing specific housework. I tend to the inside chores, and he tends to the outside chores, and when I am having a rough day, he will do the dishes because he knows I despise a cluttered sink!

Sending thoughts of strength and healing to Debbie and yourself. And congrats on the 25 years of marriage. It takes care and effort to create a bond that lasts the ups and downs. All the tips you shared were excellent. One I'd like to add as someone married for over 30 years is to do new things together. Wishing you continued love and togetherness.
