There is something about its light, lively bubbles that feels perfectly suited to warm sunshine, blooming gardens, and relaxed afternoons on the patio. <h4 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>The Beautiful Home of Prosecco</strong></span></h4>
<p data-start="667" data-end="958">Prosecco comes from northeastern Italy, in the stunning Venetian hills. This landscape is a rolling tapestry of volcanic hills that rise and dip like waves across the countryside. Medieval castles, quaint abbeys, and charming hill towns dot the region, giving it a storybook atmosphere.</p>
<p data-start="960" data-end="1019">It is here that Italy’s beloved sparkling wine is produced.</p>
<p data-start="1021" data-end="1468">The area has a long and fascinating history. In the second century BC, the Romans established important cities such as Padova, Vicenza, and Verona, and the region was known as <em data-start="1205" data-end="1214">Venetia</em>. After the fall of the Roman Empire, communities settled in the surrounding hills seeking protection from invading forces. Over time, these settlements evolved into thriving towns, eventually contributing to the rise of the famous seaport of Venice.</p>
<p data-start="1470" data-end="1618">Wine has been part of life here since Roman times, though the Prosecco enjoyed today has evolved significantly from the wines produced in antiquity.</p>
<p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21173" src="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/terry-timmins-F6KlHWQ6lqg-unsplash-scaled.jpg" alt="prosecco" width="2560" height="1707" srcset="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/terry-timmins-F6KlHWQ6lqg-unsplash-scaled.jpg 2560w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/terry-timmins-F6KlHWQ6lqg-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/terry-timmins-F6KlHWQ6lqg-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/terry-timmins-F6KlHWQ6lqg-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/terry-timmins-F6KlHWQ6lqg-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/terry-timmins-F6KlHWQ6lqg-unsplash-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/terry-timmins-F6KlHWQ6lqg-unsplash-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px" /></p>
<h4 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>The Grape Behind the Sparkle</strong></span></h4>
<p data-start="1654" data-end="1869">The grape responsible for Prosecco is called Glera. This green-skinned variety thrives in the region’s maritime climate and mineral-rich soils, conditions that help create the wine’s bright, fresh character.</p>
<p data-start="1871" data-end="2144">Glera is a late-ripening grape, harvested toward the end of the growing season. Fermentation pauses during the winter months and naturally resumes in the spring. This process creates carbon dioxide, forming the delicate bubbles that give Prosecco its signature sparkle.</p>
<p data-start="2146" data-end="2213">Two important appellations define the heart of Prosecco production:</p>
<ul data-start="2215" data-end="2275">
<li data-section-id="vwyxlg" data-start="2215" data-end="2243">
<p data-start="2217" data-end="2243">Prosecco di Conegliano</p>
</li>
<li data-section-id="k7g7xf" data-start="2244" data-end="2275">
<p data-start="2246" data-end="2275">Prosecco di Valdobbiadene</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p data-start="2277" data-end="2568">In 2009, the European Union officially recognized the grape’s name as Glera, and the Conegliano–Valdobbiadene region was elevated to DOCG status, the highest quality classification in Italy. At the same time, the Italian government protected Prosecco as a geographic designation.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21175" src="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/raychan-w3uFlKdTeJU-unsplash-scaled.jpg" alt="glera grapa" width="2560" height="1707" srcset="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/raychan-w3uFlKdTeJU-unsplash-scaled.jpg 2560w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/raychan-w3uFlKdTeJU-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/raychan-w3uFlKdTeJU-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/raychan-w3uFlKdTeJU-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/raychan-w3uFlKdTeJU-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/raychan-w3uFlKdTeJU-unsplash-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/raychan-w3uFlKdTeJU-unsplash-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px" /></p>
<h4 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Prosecco is Unique</strong></span></h4>
<p data-start="2605" data-end="2678">While Prosecco is a sparkling wine, it is quite different from Champagne.</p>
<p data-start="2680" data-end="3051">In 1868, chemist and winemaker Antonio Carpenè founded the Carpenè Malvolti winery and helped pioneer a modern method for producing Prosecco. Instead of fermenting the wine in individual bottles, he used large pressurized tanks for the second fermentation. This process, known as the Charmat method, allows carbonation to develop inside stainless steel tanks.</p>
<p data-start="3053" data-end="3217">The result is a sparkling wine that is lighter, fruitier, and more aromatic than Champagne, without the heavier yeasty notes that come from bottle fermentation.</p>
<p data-start="3219" data-end="3322">Prosecco is designed to be enjoyed young and fresh, when its lively fruit character is at its best.</p>
<p data-start="3324" data-end="3421">The sweetness levels vary depending on the amount of residual sugar remaining after fermentation:</p>
<ul data-start="3423" data-end="3528">
<li data-section-id="1nyf1yo" data-start="3423" data-end="3470">
<p data-start="3425" data-end="3470">Brut – up to 15 grams of residual sugar</p>
</li>
<li data-section-id="928s6" data-start="3471" data-end="3502">
<p data-start="3473" data-end="3502">Extra Dry – 12–20 grams</p>
</li>
<li data-section-id="1ha76i1" data-start="3503" data-end="3528">
<p data-start="3505" data-end="3528">Dry – 20–35 grams</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p data-start="3530" data-end="3623">Despite the names, “Extra Dry” is often the most common style and slightly sweeter than Brut.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21176" src="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/lisanne-van-elsen-bTLY5vK7Xis-unsplash-scaled.jpg" alt="champagne bottle" width="1920" height="2560" srcset="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/lisanne-van-elsen-bTLY5vK7Xis-unsplash-scaled.jpg 1920w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/lisanne-van-elsen-bTLY5vK7Xis-unsplash-225x300.jpg 225w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/lisanne-van-elsen-bTLY5vK7Xis-unsplash-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/lisanne-van-elsen-bTLY5vK7Xis-unsplash-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/lisanne-van-elsen-bTLY5vK7Xis-unsplash-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/lisanne-van-elsen-bTLY5vK7Xis-unsplash-600x800.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></p>
<h4 style="text-align: center;" data-section-id="1pnrfo7" data-start="3625" data-end="3653"><strong>A Prosecco Worth Tasting</strong></h4>
<p data-start="3655" data-end="3796">Recently I had the pleasure of tasting Adami Prosecco Bosco di Gica DOCG Valdobbiadene, and it was a delightful expression of the region.</p>
<p data-start="3798" data-end="4045">Winemaker Franco Adami has created a beautifully balanced sparkling wine where the fizz, sweetness, and acidity work in harmony. The aroma carries subtle notes of peach and fresh minerals, evoking the very hills where the grapes are grown.</p>
<p data-start="4047" data-end="4165">It pairs wonderfully with shellfish, fish, and seafood, making it a perfect companion for spring and summer meals.</p>
<p data-start="4167" data-end="4300">This Prosecco was also awarded Gold at The Wine Hunter Awards in 2017, a recognition that reflects its quality and craftsmanship.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21177" src="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/mel-maldonado-turner-Rlq8BdhBYp4-unsplash-scaled.jpg" alt="" width="2560" height="1920" srcset="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/mel-maldonado-turner-Rlq8BdhBYp4-unsplash-scaled.jpg 2560w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/mel-maldonado-turner-Rlq8BdhBYp4-unsplash-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/mel-maldonado-turner-Rlq8BdhBYp4-unsplash-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/mel-maldonado-turner-Rlq8BdhBYp4-unsplash-768x576.jpg 768w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/mel-maldonado-turner-Rlq8BdhBYp4-unsplash-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/mel-maldonado-turner-Rlq8BdhBYp4-unsplash-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/mel-maldonado-turner-Rlq8BdhBYp4-unsplash-600x450.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px" /></p>
<h4 style="text-align: center;" data-section-id="jdpgi8" data-start="4302" data-end="4323"><strong>A Toast to Spring</strong></h4>
<p data-start="4325" data-end="4582">If you are planning a celebration, hosting friends, or simply enjoying a quiet evening in the sunshine, I strongly recommend reaching for a bottle of Prosecco. Its light sparkle and refreshing character make it one of the most enjoyable wines of the season.</p>
<p data-start="4584" data-end="4698">Sometimes the best moments are simple ones: good company, warm weather, and a glass of something that sparkles.</p>

Whether you&#8217;re planning a romantic getaway, a weekend retreat, or simply seeking to explore the local terroir, visiting a winery can be a transformative experience. From the sun-kissed vineyards of Niagara to the charming estates of Prince Edward County, each winery tells its own story through its wines, architecture, and hospitality.</p>
<p>I have compiled a few rules to help you enjoy your experience while visiting a winery.</p>
<p>A majority of <a href="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/solar-powered-vineyard/">wineries</a> are owned by families who put their hard work, love, and expertise into managing the<a href="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/what-is-prosecco-sparkling-wine/"> vineyard</a>. The families take great pride in their wineries, and you are their guest.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Plan out your day</strong></span></h4>
<p>Napa Valley, Prince Edward County, the Niagara Peninsula, the Okanagan Valley, and every wine area have detailed maps and routes to follow. Read the map and plan to visit at least three or four wineries a day.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Have a great breakfast</strong></span></h4>
<p>Never go wine tasting on an empty stomach. Have a <a href="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/reasons-to-have-a-balanced-diet/">full meal</a> early in the morning.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Have a designated driver</strong></span></h4>
<p>Your safety comes first.  You will <a href="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/tips-on-how-to-drink-wine/">taste</a> at least four wines per vineyard. These glasses can add up. It is important to have a designated driver. Many wineries offer a free non-alcoholic beverage to the designated driver.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Do not wear perfume</strong></span></h4>
<p>The perfume will interfere with your sense of smell and taste and you will not get the exact aromas of the wine.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Be humble</strong></span></h4>
<p>Even if you are oenophile, it is always good to be humble. Be open to other ways of doing things. You might be used to drinking wines that have a cork. Some use plastic or do not use cork at all. You might not like a blend or unoaked. Have an open mind.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Get to know the winemaker and their concept</strong></span></h4>
<p>Always talk to the owner or the winemaker. Become interested in them and ask questions. You will learn so much about the wine, the vineyard, and their approach to making wine.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Do not ask for a discount</strong></span></h4>
<p>The owners and the winemaker work very hard through challenging climates and the wines are worth every dollar. Do not haggle or ask for a discount.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Respect their time</strong></span></h4>
<p>If they are not busy, it is ok to talk to them. If the tasting room is full then respect the time of the owner and the winemaker.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Taste and spit if visiting more than one vineyard</strong></span></h4>
<p>I strongly recommend this habit. Always have a piece of bread before tasting. Clean your palate. Shake the wine in the glass. Look at the sediments. Put it against the light and see if there are any tannins at the bottom of the glass. Now take a sip and gargle. Most vineyards have a bucket where you can spit the wine out.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Do not ask if there is a better wine</strong></span></h4>
<p>You are insulting the owner by asking this question. Taste the wines that are offered on the flight.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Buy a bottle</strong></span></h4>
<p>The vineyard is offering you free tasting so that you can buy some wine from them. Please buy a bottle.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #993366;"><strong>Bring a cooler to put the wine bottle</strong></span></h4>
<p>Always put the bottle that you buy straight into the cooler. This will protect the wine.<img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16314" src="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/12-Tips-for-a-Successful-Winery-Visit.png" alt="winery" width="735" height="1102" srcset="https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/12-Tips-for-a-Successful-Winery-Visit.png 735w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/12-Tips-for-a-Successful-Winery-Visit-200x300.png 200w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/12-Tips-for-a-Successful-Winery-Visit-683x1024.png 683w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/12-Tips-for-a-Successful-Winery-Visit-560x840.png 560w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/12-Tips-for-a-Successful-Winery-Visit-80x120.png 80w, https://fourcolumnsofabalancedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/12-Tips-for-a-Successful-Winery-Visit-600x900.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 735px) 100vw, 735px" /></p>
