Fifth Town Artisan Cheese
The Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company is located in beautiful Prince Edward County.
Prince Edward County (PEC) is located 220 km east of Toronto. It is just south of Belleville. The ground is atypical with many valleys and the foundation is limestone. The cracked limestone base and the stony soils allow bilge in the spring, take in all the water which allows the vines to go deep in the Indian summer, and yields a flavor that is potent, rich, full-bodied, and robust. The breeze from Lake Ontario gives maximum benefit to the vineyards of PEC.
As you exit the 401 and go south towards PEC, it is an amazing escape from the boring monotony of the 401. You are transformed into the countryside lined with unique vineyards in a succulent canvas of agrarian serenity.
The Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company embodies the character of the environment and farming practices of beautiful Prince Edward County. The focus is on authenticity that connects to the terroir of the County and its family farms. The marvelous products are a result of making it in small batches, with patience, care, love, and the intercession of a craftsman. The Fifth Town takes pride in its product.
The Fifth Town is privately owned with a focus on corporate social responsibility. The cheeses are hand-made, using fresh, locally produced buffalo, goat, and cow milk. The character and energy of the brand assimilate old methods, modern tastes, artistry, and ingenuity with local terroir.
The Fifth Town is positioned in Prince Edward County on 20 acres of land and consists of a dairy processing, retail and educational facility. The handcrafted cheese is made with advanced sustainable designs.
As you enter there is a nice welcome with lots of different cheeses to taste.
You are encouraged to try a few and sit down in the luscious garden and have a drink.
Head into the factory itself and you can see the cheese-making process through the glass and the various products.
I am surprised by the variety of cheeses offered her.
You can get Truffalo, Cape Vessey, Buffalina, Lemon Fetish, Capreggio, Engard Bongard, The Rock, Water Buffalo Parmesan, Premium Goat Cheddar, Truffalina, Tomme, Rose Haus, Operetta, and Skipping Stone.
My favorite is the Skipping Stone. Take a piece and cut it and put it on a nice fresh bread and you are in heaven.
The Fifth Town is located at 4309 Prince Edward County Rd 8, in Picton, Ontario.
