Best Poutine In Montreal

Resto Bar, Montreal Poutine has the best Poutine in Montreal. The chill spot for Quebecois pub grub & local beer is located at 181 Rue Saint-Paul E, Montreal.

Poutine emerged in Quebec in the late 1950s and is a dish consisting of French fries, cheese curds topped with brown gravy. Restaurateur Fernand Lachance of Le Cafe Ideal put it on the menu in 1957 consisting of French fries, cheese curds, and gravy to keep it warm. Jean-Paul Roy the owner of Le Roy Jucep has the copyright registration certificate as the inventor.

La Banquise and Burger King started serving Poutine in the 70s and 80s. In the restaurant industry, chefs would make it to feed their staff.

Poutine took off with Walhburgers, Arby’s, Mary Brown’s, Harvey, and a whole bunch of fast-food restaurants offering it. In the US,  they were called disco fries in New Jersey as a late-night dinner after going to the disco and became popular in New Orleans. In Japan, Korea, Russian, and the UK it is called Raspoutine. Poutine is celebrated in various festivals in Quebec.

At the hotel and various restaurants, I asked the staff what is the best place to have poutine. Everyone said try Montreal Poutine in Old Montreal. Montreal is famous for bagels and smoked meat sandwiches.

Along with Debbie, Jean, and local Chloe, we head to the Gastro Bar.

Up the stairs and to this nice quaint room.  It has a laid back cool vibe.

We are given menus.

We order the regular, smoked meat, fried onions, and chicken. We all split it evenly and it is tasty. The fries are crisp. The cheese is from a different world. The gravy is delicious and not made from powder. The flavors are there.

The food is tasty. The portions are healthy. Chloe who is a local agrees the poutine is amazing. As the dishes show the girls liked it and that is what matters. I strongly recommend visiting this restaurant in Old Montreal to taste its offerings.
