Right Hairstyle

Right Hairstyle

The right hairstyle can be important for many women for a variety of reasons.

Self-expression

For many women, their hairstyle is a form of self-expression. It can be a way to showcase their individuality and personality. The right hairstyle can be a statement about who they are and what they value.

Confidence

A hairstyle that complements a woman’s facial features and complements her overall appearance can boost her self-confidence. When a woman feels good about her hair, she is more likely to feel good about herself.

Professionalism

In some industries, such as business, law, or finance, a certain level of professionalism is expected. A neat and polished hairstyle can help a woman convey a professional image. The right hairstyle can make a difference.

Cultural or religious reasons

In some cultures or religions, certain hairstyles are important for traditional or religious reasons. For example, in some Muslim cultures, women are expected to cover their hair with a hijab.

Social norms

In some social circles, there may be certain expectations or norms regarding hairstyles. For example, in some communities, long, straight hair may be more desirable than curly hair. It’s important to note that while the right hairstyle can be important for some women, it’s not a necessity for everyone. Ultimately, the decision to choose a hairstyle should be based on personal preferences, individual style, and what makes one feel comfortable and confident.

Alina Casper from 3 Generation Hair talks to me about hairstyles and how she empowers women.

Alina, 3 Generation  Hair wants to empower women to feel and look their best. Pls, explain.

As a third-generation hairdresser, I am passionate about empowering women to feel and look their best. Growing up in Lithuania, I was raised by a stunning mother who always got attention wherever she went. However, I never felt overshadowed as my mother empowered me every single day by choosing trendy outfits, hand-knitting eye-catching sweaters, and styling my hair to perfection. From an early age, I learned that empowering others makes them feel more secure and confident.

As a hairdresser, I put my heart into making other women feel beautiful and empowered. My favorite quote is “A flower doesn’t think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” ~Zen Shin. I believe that every woman is unique and beautiful in her own way. I have a handful of clients that I work with, helping them reach their hair goals. I also created a blog about hair care to reach a wider audience beyond those who sit in my chair. In my blog, I share simple hair care tips that people can use to restore the health of their hair or find solutions to common hair problems.

In my experience, beautiful hair empowers women and helps them feel their best. I have been saying this for years, and it is the first sentence on my blog: “It is never about the hair, but about how the hair makes you feel”. By empowering women through their hair, I aim to make a positive impact on their lives and build their confidence, one hairstyle at a time.

Talk to me about how women can have a great hair day.

Having a great hair day is all about taking care of your hair, from the right hair care routine to using suitable products for your hair type. One common problem that people often face with their hair includes frizz, dandruff, greasy hair, hair fall, itchy scalp, damage, and dry hair. By solving these issues, your hair will behave in your favor.

It’s important to remember that the less we fight our natural hair texture, the more advantages we have. For example, if you have curly hair, straightening it every day can take a toll on your hair’s health. However, the beauty industry has come a long way, and there are many wonderful products that can help protect our hair.

The first step is to establish a great hair care routine. Spending just a few minutes before going to bed and taking steps that are beneficial for your hair type can set you up for success in the morning. Here are some general hair care tips that can help:

Use the right products

Choosing hair products that are suitable for your hair type and needs is crucial. This may include a leave-in conditioner, hair oil, or styling gel.

Avoid over-styling

Over-styling your hair can lead to damage and breakage. Try to limit the use of heat styling tools and don’t brush your hair too vigorously. If you do choose to use a heat styling tool like a flat iron or curling iron, make sure to use a good quality heat-protecting spray.

Get regular haircuts

Getting regular haircuts can help keep your hair healthy and prevent split ends. Aim to get a trim every 6-8 weeks.

Use a deep conditioning treatment

Using a deep conditioning treatment once a week can help nourish and moisturize your hair, leaving it looking soft and shiny.

Eat a balanced diet

Eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals can help promote healthy hair growth. Make sure to include plenty of protein, iron, and vitamin C in your diet.

By following these simple tips, you can have a great hair day every day!

My daughter is 19 and has super long hair. Give her some advice on how to take care of it.

Long hair is beautiful, especially when it’s healthy. As someone who had long hair all the way down to my waist until I gave birth to my daughter, I understand the importance of taking care of long hair. I’m sure at 19 years old, your daughter’s hair is beautiful and shiny. The only thing to keep in mind is that when it comes to long hair, the ends of the hair could be as old as 5-7 years old. On average, hair grows about half an inch (1.25 cm) per month.

The most important thing with long hair is to get regular hair trims to prevent split ends. Split ends don’t stay at the ends; they actually travel up the shaft. So while the ends of your daughter’s long hair may not have a specific age, they may be more prone to damage and breakage if they haven’t been trimmed in a while. It’s generally recommended to get a trim every 8-12 weeks to keep the hair healthy and looking its best.

Using a wide-tooth comb in the shower when she has the conditioner still in is a great way to prevent breakage that comes from combing long hair. Another recommendation I would suggest is a hair mask. The correct hair mask will rejuvenate the hair ends and help the hair to stay strong, which will add more shine when it’s healthy.

Of course, eating a balanced diet is also important for healthy hair. Beauty comes from within, after all. As someone who has had long hair, I know that taking care of it can be challenging, but the results are worth it in the end.

Walk me through some of the products that every woman should have for great hair.

There’s nothing better than the right hair care. Just like skincare needs to be personalized to your skin type, the same goes for your hair. One of the most important product choices is your shampoo and conditioner. You need a shampoo that will wash away oils and dirt but isn’t too strong to strip away natural oils or hair color. In general, professional products would have that covered for you. It’s also important to avoid using products with harsh sulfates and parabens. Look for a formula that suits your hair type and addresses your specific hair concerns, such as dryness or damage. I also find that quality shampoos are cheaper in the end because they come more concentrated, and you need to use less per shampoo. Yes, they may cost more when you buy them compared to stores like Target, but since you use less amount, they last longer.

I’m a big believer in hair masks. There are many to choose from, some come in single-use sizes, making it an inexpensive self-care day. You can even make your own. We actually wrote an article about DIY hair masks from kitchen ingredients. Whichever choice you make, it will help hydrate your hair and scalp, resulting in shiny and healthier hair. Who wouldn’t want that?

Let’s talk about hair oil. I have fine hair myself and learned how to include hair oil in my hair care routine. The hair industry has come a long way, and there are choices for everyone. Hair oils have actually become popular in recent years, especially during the pandemic. Some people even discovered “pre-oiling” their hair before shampooing. The benefits of hair oil are so many. Hair oils can help smooth frizz, add shine, and protect hair from damage. You can use them on damp or dry hair, depending on your preference. Look for oils that contain nourishing ingredients like argan oil, jojoba oil, or coconut oil.

What should a woman look for in a salon and the person who cuts her hair?

Finding the right person to do your hair is like finding the right partner to go through life with. You want to be able to trust your hairdresser and not worry about how your hair will turn out. Qualifications and experience are a must when looking for the right hairstylist. Even my grandmother, who has been doing hair for over 50 years, still attends classes and keeps learning new things. You want your hair person to be fully invested in this industry. For many hairdressers, this business is not just a 9-5 job. They take pride in their work and are constantly thinking about hair.

You should have a good gut feeling about the person who’s in charge of your hair. I’ve found that my clients are very protective of me and loyal. They speak highly of me and my family, and can’t wait to see me. That’s why I think finding the right hairdresser is similar to finding the right partner or friend. Just like in any relationship, communication is key to success. A good stylist should be able to listen to your concerns and preferences and communicate effectively with you. They should be able to offer suggestions and advice on what hairstyle would work best for your face shape and hair type.

When looking for a salon and a hairdresser, ask for recommendations from friends. It’s important for the hairstylist to be licensed, professional, and personable. Also, look for hygiene and cleanliness. Salons must follow strict rules when it comes to sanitation and cross-contamination. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to hair styling, so consider what matters to you, such as the location of the salon, the ambiance, or the availability of services such as blowouts, coloring, or styling.

Help me understand what you like about your job and how you make a difference.

I absolutely love being a hairstylist. It has allowed me to achieve a great work-life balance, raising my children while building a successful career. Through my job, I have built my own circle of people, a village of all kinds of professions, who I have been lucky enough to work with for many years. They have become more than just clients, they are friends who I have been able to support through their life struggles and celebrate their achievements with. Being a hairstylist has given me a unique opportunity to witness the growth of my clients’ families and lives, and to be trusted with their most personal stories.

One of the things I enjoy most about my job is the freedom to make my clients feel beautiful and empowered. As a hairstylist, I am a giver, and I always aim to make my clients feel their best. It’s not just about cutting and styling hair, but also about giving them a positive experience, whether it’s through an extra-long head massage or just being there to listen. I believe that when a person feels good about their hair, it can change their entire outlook on life.

In my line of work, I have seen firsthand the transformative power of a good haircut or color. I take pride in my ability to create a look that not only complements my clients’ physical appearance but also reflects their personalities and style. It’s a great feeling to know that I have made a difference in someone’s day or even their life by giving them confidence through their appearance.

Overall, I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunities that being a hairstylist has given me. I have been able to build a fulfilling career, while also making meaningful connections with people and having a positive impact on their lives.

My audience wants to know the ‘in’ look for 2023. Show me some styles.

When it comes to hair trends for 2023, there are some exciting styles that are expected to take over. Let’s take a look:

Haircuts

One of the biggest trends that are predicted to stay popular in 2023 is curtain bangs. However, this year we’ll see a shift towards shorter bangs on the forehead that gradually get longer on the eye. We’ll also see more gender-neutral haircuts, with edgier and more dramatic styles that allow people to express themselves. Shag haircuts are also making a comeback from the 90s and 80s, with many people loving the retro vibe.

Hair color

When it comes to hair color, natural and soft blend highlights are going to be a popular choice. Think of Jennifer Aniston’s iconic hair color that never goes out of style. There’s also a growing preference for sun-kissed natural colors, such as ‘teddy bear blond.’ While ash colors were the top request in 2022, in 2023 we’ll see a shift towards more warm colors like golden brown, soft coppers, and reds. Another trend to watch out for is color-blocking, also known as “peekaboo colors,” which allows clients to customize their hair color and placement exactly how they want it. They can play around with unique combinations, such as half-red and half-black or a pink chunk of hair underneath blonde strands.

Hairstyles

Farrah Fawcett flips and 90’s blow-dry hairstyles are predicted to remain popular in 2023, with the Dyson hair styler inspiring people to experiment with these styles. Thanks to online tutorials, people have learned how to use the Dyson hair styler to achieve better control and volume.

Talk to me about your city and the food scene.

Growing up in a small city in Lithuania, dining out was considered a luxury for me. However, my mother was an excellent cook, and the highlight of my day was always the dessert that followed dinner. Today, I live in a small college town in California, where we have an amazing village with a unique food scene. Interestingly, our town doesn’t allow fast food chains, and instead, all the restaurants in the area are family-owned. I find it fascinating how small businesses support each other and local kids.

California is known for its diverse food culture, and in my town, the choices are truly endless. From poke bowls to Mexican or Italian cuisine, one can find a variety of food options in the same shopping center. Our family’s favorite restaurant is Din Tai Fung, a Dim Sum eatery.

Despite the numerous dining options available, I enjoy cooking for my family, and they prefer my meals over going out. Thanks to my extensive travels and watching food-related videos, I’m obsessed with providing my family with nutritious and quality meals. However, when it comes to dessert, that’s a whole different story. Our desserts are mostly chocolate-based, but not your typical candies like Hershey’s, Twix bars, or M&M’s. I consider those to be candies rather than real chocolate. Chocolate is like wine to me, and it has to be of the right quality and from the right region of the world. In fact, I once visited a chocolate factory to learn about chocolate production. My best friend from Denmark often sends me packages of chocolate, and I feel very spoiled. A good example of our love for desserts is when we took a day trip to Paris just to try real French macarons and crepes for my daughter.
